Growing Through What We Go Through

Written by Cody Beatus

Maybe you have heard the saying “Grow through what you go through”. While this saying can be a little too simplistic to fit every person’s experience, it can certainly ring true for many of us. Sometimes life can overwhelm us and put us through situations and experiences we never thought we would endure. We experience all the highs and lows that life has to offer- loss, love, triumphs, defeats, and so on and so forth. I see each and every experience, whether it is positive, negative, or somewhere in between, as a chance to learn and grow.

Let me be very clear- learning and growing from an experience does nothing to negate the very real, often difficult feelings that come with said experience. I do not intend this to be an encouragement to merely find silver linings in the hard parts of life. Instead I am suggesting that these difficult feelings are a part of the process of learning and growing. A mindset of “What can I learn from this feeling or from this experience?” can allow us to view our lived experiences through a wholly new lens.

Have you ever found yourself wondering how you were going to make it through something? The fact that you are sitting here reading this blog post means you somehow made it through. Whether you are aware of it or not, I am willing to wager that you learned something from that experience. Maybe you tapped into an internal sense of perseverance that you were previously unaware of. Maybe you came out the other side of that situation a kinder, more caring person. Or maybe you learned how to set better boundaries. I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on the fact that you are here and that you have made it through all the things that have led up to this very moment. You have learned so much over the years and you will continue to do so for all the years to come.
