A Professional's Response to Dear Evan Hansen

A couple years ago, when I was away “relaxing” in New York at the International Society of Trauma and Dissociation conference, I took an evening away to Broadway to see the biggest show at the time- Dear Evan Hansen. Already spending every waking conference hour discussing trauma, depression, and suicide, I was ready to lose myself in a Broadway musical and enjoy life. What if Stuckness is an Invitation to Stillness?

How easy is to feel anxious or agitated or even derailed from life? To begin to imagine you will never not be stuck, to go immediately go into problem-solving mode to get un-stuck. But the thought came to me recently: what if stuckness is an invitation to stillness? What if, instead of going full force into problem-solving mode, I take a second to slow down, breathe, and embrace the stillness that stuckness can offer?
